How to Remove Password Protected Files from a File Upload Process in Node.js
Allowing users to submit password-protected files through our file upload process leaves our system vulnerable to attack. Password protected files can house viruses, malware, and malicious code in various forms designed to quickly compromise our system once the file is unlocked. Often, the required password is provided from a source we believe we can trust, making it extremely difficult to distinguish a threat from a trustworthy transaction.
Blocking password-protected file uploads can be accomplished easily by implementing the free-to-use API provided below and setting the allowPasswordProtectedFiles request parameter to “False”. Once this parameter is configured, the underlying service will consider any password-protected file to be a threat and return a CleanResult: False value for that file in the API response body. The service will also scan acceptable file types (i.e., those not screened out by the customized request policies) for millions of virus and malware signatures to ensure a clean, reliable file upload process.
